About the Job
We are seeking a versatile, high-energy Assistant Manager to serve as a strategic partner to our ownership team. As an independently owned franchise and family-run business just six months into our journey, we are poised to advance into the next stage of growth and possibility. We aren't just looking for another employee; we are looking for a key member of our extended family who wants to help us build a lasting legacy.
In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between our Front of House (Shipping & Customer Service) and Back of House (Design & Print Production) while helping us increase to new service lines. We need a leader who can drive operational excellence, develop sustainable systems from the ground up, and foster a joyful, high-performing culture. You won’t just be working in the business; you will be helping to shape and direct it, working hand-in-hand with store ownership. You will help us become known as a leader for print quality and efficiency; an expert in shipping and logistics; and as a hub for innovation and community in Lakewood.
Note: We take pride in serving our diverse Belmar neighborhood; therefore, bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required for this leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
- Operations Management: Oversee daily store operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory management.
- Systems Development: Lead initiatives to establish, document, and implement new SOPs and workflows as our business matures.
- Business Services: Manage all front-of-house services, including Fieldprint fingerprinting and Anytime Mailbox and iPostal1 virtual mailboxes, ensuring proper staff training/supervision, policy compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Notary Public: Serve as a notary public (active Colorado license or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment).
- Relationship Management: Interact with and oversee shipping couriers, various production vendors, and other community partners.
Team Management & Customer Experience
- Culture: Lead by example to foster a positive, collaborative culture rooted in joy, where every employee is empowered and accountable.
- Talent Development: Actively participate in hiring, training, and mentoring team members, promoting internal growth.
- Customer Advocacy: Act as our lead consultant, recommending personalized solutions that drive sales and build lasting relationships.
- Issue Resolution: Handle complex customer escalations with tact and professionalism to ensure retention.
Design & Print Operations
- Workflow Management: In coordination with production lead, oversee the entire production cycle (estimating, file prep, proofing, finishing, and fulfillment) to ensure efficient throughput.
- Technical Expertise: Maintain proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Canva, Fiery, and VersaWorks.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper regular maintenance of production equipment (Ricoh 5300, Duplo 616 Pro, Roland VG3, Canon TM355) and manage technical issues.
- Strategic Expansion: Assist in scaling capabilities for wide format offerings (stickers/vinyls on Roland VG3) and co-developing our new bespoke consumer 3D printing program (BambuLab X1C) with our resident 3D printing expert.
Shipping & Freight Operations
- Retail Leadership: Serve as the expert consultant for all retail carriers (DHL, FedEx, UPS, and USPS), creating cost-effective solutions for customers.
- Freight Brokerage: Develop expertise in our co-located World Options freight brokerage, handling domestic and international commercial freight (LTL, FTL, small parcels).
- Business Development: Utilize the World Options Portal to quote, book, and track shipments, while generating leads and tracking outreach in HubSpot to drive new commercial growth.
What We’re Looking For
Requirements:
- Experience: 2+ years in retail operations, print production, retail shipping, freight brokering, or management.
- Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency working with basic technology (PC/Mac, Google Suite including Gmail), comfort using digital tools and management systems (Trello, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Fiery, VersaWorks) and ability to learn new systems/platforms (POS, Shipping Software, HubSpot, Freight Portals)
- Leadership: Proven experience in hiring, training, and managing a team.
- Notary: Must be a Notary Public or willing/able to become certified in Colorado within 30 days.
- Physical: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift packages up to 50 lbs.
- Dependability: Available during normal business hours, including Saturdays.
Personal Attributes:
- "We-Not-Me" Perspective: You foster a collaborative culture where individual success is measured by how effectively you support and elevate the entire team.
- Customer-Centric: You are friendly, empathetic, and a clear communicator who listens proactively, works to find solutions, and aims to build long-term relationships.
- Bridge Builder: You can translate "customer needs" into "production jobs."
- Growth Mindset: You are curious and motivated to expand your skill set (e.g., 3D printing or freight shipping). If you don’t know something, you are open to learning it.
- Community Minded: You take pride in the organization's core values and its role in the neighborhood.
- Strong Time Management and Organizational Skills: You can thrive in a fast-paced environment with the ability to triage and multi-task.
- Reliable: You are organized, dependable, and ready to take ownership of the store's success.
What We Offer
- Impact: Ability to get in at the ground level (center in its first year looking to grow and expand with its employees).
- Career Path: Fast track to future leadership positions (Store Manager, Multi-Unit General Manager).
- Culture: A fun, inclusive, people-centered environment.
- Training: Chance to learn about new equipment, emerging technologies including 3D printing and commercial freight logistics.
- Education: Access to the PostNet network with resources, experts, and ongoing training, plus opportunity for paid classes and industry certifications.
